WPL: WPL Auction Anticipated To Occur Following ILT20 Conclusion

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction, which was supposed to take place in the first week of February, will likely be pushed back to February 11 or 13, according to Cricbuzz.

The representatives of a few of the teams prefer the WPL auction following the conclusion of the ILT20 because four of the five WPL teams—MI Reliance’s Emirates, Capri Global’s Sharjah Warriors, Adani Group’s Gulf Giants, and Delhi Capitals’ Dubai Capitals—are participating in the ILT20. Diageo’s Royal Challengers Bangalore is the fifth WPL team.

February 13 Possible Date For WPL Auction

To avoid having their attention diverted, some of the teams, if not all of them, have asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take timing the auction after the ILT20 knockout rounds into consideration. The ILT20 playoffs will begin on February 8 and end on February 12 with the championship game.

Although the BCCI has not yet publicly notified the new franchises of the auction date, it has been heard that February 13 is a possible date since the board is reportedly really inclined to accommodate the franchisees’ request. When the BCCI originally planned to host the auction on February 6, Mumbai, Delhi, and Ahmedabad were on the shortlist for the location.

“The BCCI is discussing the dates but February 11 (Saturday) and 13 (Monday) have been shortlisted. February 13 will be a convenient date for most franchises,” said a representative of a WPL team.

A BCCI/WPL representative reaffirmed this. The representative agreed with the proposal for ILT0 matches, saying, “We need to give the teams time to plan for the auction.”

Given the recent wedding season in India, Cricbuzz reports that the BCCI is seeking for a convenient hotel to host the auction and that finding one has not been simple. The BCCI managers have selected hotels for February 11 in Delhi and February 13 in Mumbai. In a day or two, the decision will likely be made in its final form.
