Australian opener Marcus Harris, who made his Test debut in Adelaide joined the verbal war as he tried to sledge Indian National Cricket team wicket-keeper, Rishabh Pant in the last over of day four at Perth.

Meanwhile, the hosts bounced from 1-0 down to level the series with a 146-run win at Perth. They did a complete turnaround in Perth to square up the four-match Test series. Usman Khawaja held the second innings together and the bowlers had fun towards the end to put this target beyond India’s reach.

287 on a bouncy (two-paced at times) pitch was a tough ask and the visitors’ openers yet again disappointed, which lifted the mood further in the Aussie camp. Nathan Lyon removing Virat Kohli and Murali Vijay in quick succession hurt India badly and since then, Australia knew it was just a case of chipping away at the wickets and they did exactly that.

The recently-concluded Test witnessed some heated moments when Virat Kohli and Tim Paine squared up against each other. Their on-field banter received criticism from many corners, and Kohli’s attitude was under the scanner. The to-and-fro verbal battle between both skippers has been the main event of this Test, but Marcus Harris has provided an amusing undercard that has gone unnoticed.

Inspired by his fearless leader, Marcus Harris wanted a piece of the action and got in touch with his creative side during the final over of day four.

The southpaw was fielding at short leg and was praying for a miracle finish on the last ball of the day, advising Indian keeper Rishabh Pant to deliberately give up his wicket so he could enjoy the Perth nightlife.

If you get out you can go out and disco tonight. Good circuit on a Monday night in Perth,” Harris said.
