Indian batter Virat Kohli shared a light moment with the crowd during Day 1 of the second Test against Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru that got underway on Saturday.

Kohli was seen wearing a red vest underneath his Test jersey before the start of play. Although it didn’t have any significance at the time being, he played around with the crowd, teasing them ahead of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain and jersey reveal.

The adopted son of Bengaluru pulled out his red vest, egging the crowd on late into the evening. Kohli is a master of engaging the crowd and this was no different, especially it being his second home.

Later on, he was seen gesturing them to stay calm and wait as it would be revealed soon after. Just a few miles away from the stadium, RCB was conducting an unbox event where the fans gathered to know who will be leading their beloved team.

It was confirmed that Faf du Plessis would be taking over the mantle from Kohli, who had announced that he would be stepping down as the skipper after the IPL 2021 season in the UAE.

“Having been a leader for a while, I’ve been on the journey for creating a culture, it’s close to my heart. First and foremost, my style will be a relational style. To connect with players and start to get to know everyone.”

“The first part of my journey would be to build relationships, try and make sure what are the small things that make each individual tick and how to get the best out of them,” du Plessis said during the acceptance speech in Church Street.
