The ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 is currently underway in New Zealand. Eight teams are fighting it out for the ultimate prize of winning the World Cup title. India are currently topping the points table after registering a 155-run win over the West Indies women.

The Indian team bounced back to winning ways after a humiliating defeat against the White Ferns. In this game however, they did everything right and it was a clinical performance from Mitahli Raj’s girls. Centuries from Smriti Mandhana (123) and Harmanpreet Kaur took India to 317/8.

Harmanpreet scored her third hundred in the marquee event as she joined the likes of Stafanie Taylor, Natalie Sciver, Suzie Bates and Karen Rolton to have scored three centuries in the World Cup overall. For Smriti, it was her second century in World Cups having scored one previously in 2017 World Cup also against West Indies.

Jhulan Goswami, on the other hand, also went past achieved a new record after bagging the wicket of Anisa Mohammed to surpass former Australian spinner Lynette Fullston in the list of the highest wicket-taker in the World Cup events. Jhulan Goswami- 40 Wickets

Heading into this game, Goswami had 39 wickets in ICC Women’s World Cup matches from 30 games. Taking the wicket of Anisa Mohammed she has now become the highest wicket-taker in WOmen’s World Cup history. She played her first world cup back in 2005. She took 13 wickets in that edition of the World Cup. So far in this edition, she has taken four wickets from three games.

Lynette Fullston- 39 Wickets

Former Australian cricketer, Lynette Fullston is second in this list with 39 wickets from just 20 games. She played international cricket for Australia between 1982 to 1988. She is the only bowler in this elite list to take a fifer in World Cups. During her cricket career, Lyn represented Australia in 12 Tests and 41 ODIs. She has the notable record of taking 20 wickets in his first Test series for Australia in 1984.

Carole Hodges- 37 Wickets

The former England cricketer sits third on this elite list. Hodges took 37 wickets in 24 matches for England in World Cup matches. Her best figures are 4/3. She maintained an economy of 2.35. She played 18 Testa and 47 ODIs for England picking up 81 international wickets. Apart from that, she scored 1164 Test runs and 1073 ODI runs for her side.

Clare Taylor- 36 Wickets

Another England cricketer Clare Taylor sits fourth on the list of most wickets in ICC Women’s World Cup matches. She took 36 wickets from 26 matches with a best of 4/13. She played international cricket between 1998 to 2005 for the national side. Overall, the medium, pacer played 16 Tests and 105 ODIs picking up 25 Test and 102 ODI wickets.

Cathryn Fitzpatrick- 33 Wickets

She had the reputation of being one the fastest bowlers in women’s international cricket. The former Australian cricket played between 1991 to 2005 and was instrumental in leading her team to two World Cup titles in 1997 and 2005. She became the first female bowler to take 150 one-day wickets, in June 2005, against Ireland. Overall, she played 13 Tests and 109 ODIS taking 240 international wickets in total.
