ICC Women's World Cup 2022: We Both Contributed Equally – Smriti Mandhana Shares Her Player Of The Match Award With Centurion Harmanpreet Kaur

Indian opener Smriti Mandhana after the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 clash against the West Indies said that she and her vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur contributed equally for the team and shared her ‘Player of the Match’ award with centurion Harmanpreet.

India won the World Cup clash against the West Indies in a dominating style by 155 runs at the Seddon Park, Hamilton on Saturday, March 12.

Opener Mandhana was the top run-getter for the Indian team having scored exceptional 123 runs off 119 deliveries, including 13 boundaries and 2 sixes. Notably, this was the second-highest score by an Indian batter in a Women’s World Cup match. Also, Harmanpreet Kaur smashed a remarkable 109 runs off 107 balls, including 10 fours and 2 sixes to help India post 317/8 on the board, while batting first.

After India’s victory, Mandhana was named as Player of the Match and she walked up with Harmanpreet to collect the award and said that she will be sharing the award with Harmanpreet.

It’s good for us to share the trophy – Smriti Mandhana

The 25-year-old Smriti said that she wouldn’t want to be in a situation where she scores a century and doesn’t get the Player of the Match award. She said:

“Well, I think scoring a century and not being the Player of the Match is something that I really wouldn’t want.”

She further added that she and Harmanpreet contributed equally for India to score in the excess of 300 runs. Also, Smriti said that she and her vice-captain are good enough contenders to win the Player of the Match award.

“I think we both contributed equally for us to score 300. It’s good for us to share the trophy. Both of us are good enough contenders to get this (award). I believe ICC has enough budget to give both of us separate trophies (laughs)” Mandhana added.
