Team India might miss three of their first-choice players ahead of the South Africa tour due to injury issues. Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, and Axar Patel have all sustained injuries which might keep them out of the all-important South Africa tour this month.

Jadeja didn’t play the second Test against New Zealand at home after scans revealed that he had a swollen forearm. “All-rounder Jadeja suffered a right forearm injury during the 1st Test match in Kanpur. After undergoing scans, he was diagnosed with a swelling on his forearm. He has been advised rest and is thus ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai,” a release from the BCCI said.

A source was also quoted as saying to the Indian Express that Jadeja’s ligament tear might take a few months to heal. And if the all-rounder opts to undergo surgery, he might well be out of action until next year’s IPL.

Shubman Gill’s shin injury adds to India’s problems

Opener Gill’s shin injury has resurfaced which might also keep him out of India’s tour of South Africa. The youngster had to travel back to India from England earlier this year after aggravation of the same injury. It seems the injury has come back to haunt the right-hander once again.

As for Axar Patel, his initial report confirmed a stress reaction that might take more than a month to heal. The selectors are likely to announce the Test squad very soon and they will take a final call on whether Axar will be on the flight to Johannesburg.

Another problem that has come up is the senior pacer, Ishant Sharma’s side strain. Although Kohli and co. have a suitable replacement in Mohammed Siraj, the experienced campaigner’s presence in South Africa can be helpful.
