IND vs WI: “Becoming A Giant Of The ODI Format” – Aakash Chopra Hails India Star Shreyas Iyer

Former India National Cricket Team opener Aakash Chopra heaped praise on the 27-year-old star India batter Shreyas Iyer for his amazing performances in the ongoing three-match ODI series against the West Indies National Cricket Team.

The 27-year-old, batting at No.3, has done a brilliant job for Shikhar Dhawan and Co. in the first two ODIs of the series at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.

He scored 54 runs off 57 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes, before being dismissed by Gudakesh Motie in the first ODI. In the second ODI, he batted even better and scored 63 runs off 71 balls, including 4 fours and 1 six, before being dismissed by Alzarri Joseph.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, former India opener Chopra said that Iyer is becoming a giant of the One Day International (ODI) format. He said:

 “Shreyas Iyer – he is becoming a giant of the ODI format. He has struck one century, he has 11 half-centuries, he has played just 25-odd ODI matches in total, and he is gun.”

Chopra further said that Iyer has got some issues against the short-pitched deliveries and his recent run in Tests and T20Is have also not been very good. However, the cricketer-turned-commentator said that the 27-year-old batter has been ruling in the 50-over format.

“The short-ball problem, T20s and Test matches, let’s not talk about that. He has been ruling the roost in this format. I remember his Hamilton ton as well. He is also asking the question that once everyone is available, how will you keep him out,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, India have already won the series against West Indies by winning the thriller first ODI by 3 runs and nail-biting second ODI by 2 wickets.
