India take on West Indies in the third and final ODI in Trinidad on Wednesday, July 27. India won the first two games and is leading the series 2-0. They will be eyeing a whitewash in the final ODI. Both teams then play a five-match T20I series after the ODIs.

Shikhar Dhawan is leading this Indian tea without regular skipper Rohit Sharma who has been rested from the ODI series. He will be back for the T20Is along with Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and others. Dhawan was a delighted skipper after the second ODI as he hailed his teammates for taking India over the line.

“It was a great team performance. Boys didn’t lose their self-belief, that is amazing. Iyer, Sanju, Axar everyone was amazing, Even Avesh came out in his debut game and scored those 11 important runs. Thanks to IPL, they perform on a huge stage. I felt that we bowled nicely. They got off to a good start. Hope and Pooran batted well. We thought if they could do it, we knew that we could do it. We started a little slow. Shubman batted well. The Iyer-Samson partnership made a huge difference” said Dhawan on the performance.

Gill has two good scores under his belt. He scored 64 in the first ODI and 43 in the second. However, with the management looking to test the bench strength, they might have to choose between the two as the second opener.

Shreyas Iyer

Iyer scored two back-to-back fifties in the first two ODIs against West Indies. He will look to end the series on w high with another fifty-plus score.

SKY did not have the best ODI series that he expected. He scored 13 in the first ODI and nine in the second. If he is selected in the final ODI, he would want to take the opportunity count.

Deepak Hooda

Hooda has been in good form for India since the Ireland T20I series. He made full use of his opportunities against England and Now against West Indies as well. He slots in at five.

Sanju Samson / Ishan Kishan (WK)

Samson scored a crucial fifty in the second ODI to allow the selectors to give him the edge over Kishan for the third ODI. However, Kishan is good enough a player to replace him in the XI.

Axar Patel

Patel will slot in at number seven. He scored an unbeaten 645 in the second ODI and helped his side win the game to make sure he is undroppable for the final ODI.

Shardul Thakur / Ravindra Jadeja

Thakur batting at number eight extended India’s batting line-up just a touch more. He has been good with the ball in delivering crucial wickets. He took 2/54 in the second ODI and should retain his place. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja missed the first two games due to an injury. If he gets fit he might replace Thakur in the lineup.

Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan can be given a chance to play in the third ODI in place of Mohammed Siraj. The chance can be tactical and also as a part of India’s rotation policy.

Singh can replace Prasidh Krishna in the final ODI. The Karnataka pacer gave away 62 runs and went wicketless in the second ODI. Singh with his variations can be a better replacement.

Yuzvendra Chahal
