The IPL 2022 kicks off with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium on March 27. It is a rematch of the IPL 2021 final. CSK beat KKR in that game and it is KKR’s chance now to avenge the defeat.

The IPL 2022 will be a 10- team event with two new teams being added onto the IPL fold. Lucknow Supergiants and Gujarat Titans are the two new teams. The teams have been divided into two groups of five teams each. KKR are placed in group A alongside Mi, DC, RR and LSG. CSK are placed in group B alongside RCB, SRH, PBKS and GT.

A total of 74 matches will be played across 65 days with the final set to be played on May 29. Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at three CSK players for whom IPL 2022 could be the last season of their careers.

MS Dhoni hinted about playing one more season at home when Harsha Bhogle asked him whether he will be seen playing in IPL 2022. CSK made a massive comeback under him in 2018 after being banned for two seasons. They won the title for the third time in 2018 and again for their fourth time in IPL 2021. The CSK skipper would ideally look to cap off his IPL career with another IPL title to his credit.

Robin Uthappa

The former KKR player, Robin Uthappa is ageing 36 and this IPL season could well be his last. He was rebought at the IPL 2022 mega auction by CSK. Other than him none of the other franchises were interested in buying him. Uthappa is among the top-scorers in the IPL and would like to contribute substantially to CSK’s success this season. This might well be his last season as teams have looked to rebuild in the mega auction and there are no mega auctions further in the tournament as reported earlier.

Dwayne Bravo

Bravo has been playing for CSK since 2011 and under MS Dhoni’s leadership. Along with Dhoni and Jadeja, Bravo forms the core of CSK. Over the years, he has been a matchwinner for the franchise with bat and ball. He has taken 124 wickets and scored almost 2000 runs with the bat for the franchise. Overall, he is the second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL with 167 wickets to his name. With no MS Dhoni in the CSK squad possibly from next year, Bravo too might call time on his IPL career.
