England’s pace bowler Mark Wood will not be part of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad for the upcoming IPL 2022 season after he sustained an elbow injury during the first Test against West Indies in North Sound last week.

As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, Wood’s status was revealed to the LSG franchise by the England Cricket Board (ECB). It confirmed that he cannot bowl and any aggravation will only cause long-term damage.

For now, LSG hasn’t found a replacement for the right-arm quick. Wood was supposed to be a vital cog in the new franchise’s bowling attack after being picked up for INR 7.5 crores in the IPL 2022 mega auction. Unfortunately, he will have to wait to return to cricketing action.

Meanwhile, the franchise captain KL Rahul has stepped up preparation ahead of the season. LSG will be making its debut alongside Gujarat Titans (GT), both of whom were added to the league this year.

The next two months are going to be very special. It’s going to be a lot of fun, working with all the guys. We all are going to try and work together, towards winning.

The new season gives us a great opportunity as a new franchise to do something special and everyone on the team is very excited to do that. Can’t wait for the season and can’t wait for all of us to get on the park and win games together,” Rahul said in an Instagram video.

Ahead of the auction, LSG had acquired the services of Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi. They went into the auction with a purse of INR 59.80 crores and made quite a few big purchases, none bigger than that of South African opener, Quinton de Kock.

Lucknow Super Giants squad for IPL 2022 season:
