Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has broken his silence on youngster Rajvardhan Hangargekar not getting a game in the season so far. CSK has already played eight games so far in IPL 2022. The side has struggled to win games consistently this season having just won two out of their first eight games.

Rajvardhan Hangargekar was roped in by CSK in the IPL 2022 mega auction for 1.5 crores. Many expected him to play a key role for CSK in the season ad thus his absence from the playing XI came as a shock to many.

Stephen Fleming has explained the reason behind why the management has not given the youngsters game yet in the season so far. He said that they are aware of his talent and want him to realise his potential.

“You have to be very careful. I know he’s (Rajvardhan) performed at the Under-19 level but this is a step up,” Fleming said, as quoted by the official website of CSK.

“We’re very conscious of the skills that he needs to perform. We don’t wanna just throw him in and damage him. We want to make sure we realise the potential that he’s got,” Fleming further added.

The CSK head coach further said that Hangargekar has already played in some key tournaments at a very young age while adding that he is a key part of CSK’s future.

“He’s on an excellent program with us. He’s played some big games already. If the opportunity arises this year, we’ll put him in. Pace is one thing, how to use it and bowl on the big stage is very important. We’re not gonna mess around with a talent like him,” said the former New Zealand captain.

Chennai Super Kings next play Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 1. They need to win all their remaining games to give themselves a chance of making it to the playoffs.
