Jasprit Bumrah is the vice-captain of the Indian team that has been picked for the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Indian skipper and the selectors have spoken about grooming the likes of Bumrah, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant for potential future captains of India.

Bumrah was retained along with Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard by Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Bumrah has been a part of Mumbai Indians since 2013 and the relationship is still going strong. He recently spoke to Ravichandran Ashwin about the possibility of leading the franchise in the future.

Speaking for Ashwin’s Youtube channel, Bumrah said that he does not like chasing things and if he is asked to lead the franchise in the future he would do that to the best of his ability.

“I don’t like to chase things because I don’t want to. See I am a person who believes that God has a plan and everything will find out its own way, so I don’t like to hamper things that are there.

“I never try to change anything. Whatever role is asked of me I would do it with the best ability that I can. I don’t want to change the whole organisation, you are always a leader when you are a senior member of the team so it’s just a post that comes with you,” he told Ashwin on his YouTube channel.

Jasprit Bumrah was the vice-captain of the Indian team that played the Test series against South Africa. He is yet to lead any team in his career so far. However, he said that he would be honoured to lead the national side if he is asked to do so but he is not just thinking only about captaincy at the moment.

“Yes, if given an opportunity at any scenario, it would be an honour and I would never ever shy away from that, but it is something that I don’t go looking for, that is how I look at the leadership aspect of the game,” said Bumrah to Ashwin.
