SA20: Jacob Oram Roped In As MI Cape Town's Bowling Coach Ahead Of Season 1

Former Kiwi all-rounder Jacob Oram was roped in as the bowling coach of MI Cape Town ahead of the inaugural edition of the South African domestic T20 league. MI Cape Town is one of the teams in the league owned by the business tycoon of India, the Ambani family. They are also the owners of Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

Jacob Oram played international cricket for New Zealand for more than a decade. He also played in the IPL for Mumbai Indias in 2013 and also for the Chennai Super Kings in the initial years of the IPL. Oram started his coaching tenure in 2014.

His first assignment was with New Zealand women’s cricket team as an assistant coach. His most recent coaching experience was with the Northern Warriors franchise in the Abu Dhabi T10 League as an assistant coach.

The MI Cape Town franchise has acquired reputed overseas T20 superstars in the initial draft by acquiring the likes of Rashid Khan, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, and Dewald Brevis. Among their other acquisitions were Rassie van Der Dussen and Odean Smith. The franchise has also picked Jofra Archer as their wildcard pick. Rashid Khan has been nominated as the skipper of the franchise.

MI Cape Town kick off its campaign in the South African league by facing off against the Paarl Royals on January 10 at the Newlands Cricket Stadium in Cape Town. Paarl is the sister franchise of Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
