Sanjay Bangar believes Axar Patel is a great plus for India after the second T20I against Sri Lanka in Pune because of his calmness under pressure.

The squad was chasing 207 when Axar came in at 58-5 in the tenth over in Pune on Thursday, January 5. He then hammered 65 off 31 deliveries. His strike ultimately proved to be ineffective, as the Men in Blue suffered a 16-run defeat.

When asked whether Axar’s performance was good for India during an interview on the Star Sports program “Match Point,” Sanjay Bangar replied:

“He impressed me a lot, especially the way he has worked on his batting. The temperament was seen. He always had batting ability; he had emerged as an all-rounder earlier. He put the pressure on Sri Lanka’s main bowler – Wanindu Hasaranga – in tough circumstances.”

Axar amassed stats of 2/24 in four overs before hitting 65 runs off 31 balls in India’s run chase against Sri Lanka in the second T20I. In the first game, the all-around spinner struck an unbeaten 31 off 20 deliveries, but he failed to pick up any wickets.

Suryakumar Yadav’s knock is lauded by Sanjay Bangar:

Further questioned about his opinions over Suryakumar’s knock, Sanjay Bangar responded as follows:

“He demonstrated how a skilled player should play. Because the other batters are relatively new, this squad looks for experience in Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya. When chasing a goal of more than 200 runs, you want to score 60 to 70 runs in the first six overs,” Sanjay Bangar said.

After India was in a hazardous 57-5 position in the tenth over, Axar and Suryakumar put up a 91-run sixth-wicket stand in 6.4 overs. Axar and Shivam Mavi scored another 41 runs together for the seventh wicket, but they were unable to get their team over the finish line.
