The Ashes 2021-22: MCG Could Host Ashes Finale In Place Of Perth
Updated - 29 Nov 2021, 06:47 PM
The marquee five-Test Ashes 2021-22 series is all set to begin from December 8 at the iconic Gabba, Brisbane and the Ashes finale is scheduled to be played at the Perth Stadium from January 14. However, it looks like the 5th Test match might be moved from Perth due to strict Covid-19 rules and regulations of Western Australia.
The England And Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Australia (CA) officials are set to discuss this matter in the next couple of days as it looks like the last match will have to be shifted away from Perth.

Visitors entering Western Australia will have to complete the mandatory quarantine period of 14 days, and all the players from both teams would not want to spend any more time in quarantine so it’s highly unlikely that Perth will host the Test match.
We’re Ready If We’re Needed – Melbourne Cricket Club Chief Executive Stuart Fox On Hosting The Ashes Finale
Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) will be hosting the third Ashes Test match from December 26 and are expected to get the 5th Test as well because Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) will be hosting the 4th Test, and CA doesn’t think selling tickets in the same city for two successive Tests will be a great idea.
Meanwhile, Melbourne Cricket Club chief executive Stuart Fox on 3AW radio said:
“We’re ready if we’re needed, We’re never cheeky about these things because we’ve lost two grand finals and I don’t like seeing other states pinch content. But if Cricket Australia made a phone call to us and said ‘we need you to host a second Test’. we’d be ready to go.”
