Winning an ICC trophy is a huge achievement for any team. ODI World Cup, T20 Word Cup, Champions Trophy, and World Test Championship are the 4 ICC tournaments currently. All the top international teams take part in ICC tournaments and hence, winning an ICC trophy equals the tag of world champions.

When a team wins an ICC tournament, captains get a lot of appreciation. There are many captains who led their team to an ICC trophy in the past. 5. Vivian Richards

Former West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards is the first player in this list. The West Indies legend led West Indies from 1980 to 1991. He led the team in 105 ODI matches, winning 67 and losing 36 while 2 ended in a tie. However, Richards never managed to lead West Indies to an ICC trophy.

4. Graeme Smith

Graeme Smith is another player in this list. The former South African skipper led the team from 2003 to 2011. He led the team in 150 ODIs. Under his leadership, South Africa won 92 ODIs and lost 51 games. Smith had a win percentage of 64.23. However, he could not win an ICC trophy under his leadership.

3. AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers is a former South African player. The batting legend led the team from 2012 to 2017. He was skipper in 103 ODIs, winning 59 and losing 39 matches with a win percentage of 60.10. However, he failed to win any ICC trophy. In ODI World Cup 2015, Villiers-led South Africa lost to New Zealand in the semi-final.

2. Mahela Jayawardene

Mahela Jayawardene is another player in this list. Jayawardene led Sri Lanka from 2004 to 2013. He led the team in 129 ODIs, winning 71 and losing 49 with a win percentage of 59.09. However, he failed to win any ICC trophy for the team. He also led Sri Lanka in 19 T20Is, winning 12 and losing 6.

Virat Kohli is another player in this list. He led Indian team in 95 ODIs from 2013 to 2021, winning 65 games and losing 27 at a win percentage of 70.43. In T20Is, he led the side in 50 games, winnings 30 and losing 16. However, Virat Kohli never managed to lead the team to an ICC trophy. Under his captainship, India lost the final to Pakistan in Champions Trophy 2017 and ICC World Test Championship 2019-21 final to New Zealand.
