Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is set to represent the Mumbai Indians for the upcoming edition of the Women’s Premier League. The player was acquired by the franchise for a sum of INR 1.80 crores. The player is likely to lead the franchise which will see Mumbai Indians field India’s both Men’s and Women’s international skippers.

The captain of the Indian women’s team, whose name was listed as the second marquee player, registered herself at a base price of Rs 50 lakh. Harmanpreet, who is presently in South Africa for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, shared her thoughts on being signed and expressed her anticipation of receiving excellent support from the Mumbai fans.

After being signed by the Mumbai Indians, Harmanpreet was present during the live broadcast where she talked about joining the illustrated franchise while talking about the impact the league can have on women’s cricket.

“I have the opportunity to be part of the Mumbai Indians team and I hope you know we will make a good team and we’ll do what we are there to do, Oh, well, we all are coming to Mumbai, and I hope we’ll get lots of support from Mumbai Indians and, you know, Indian fans are always been very great and we are really looking forward to it. We look forward to contributing to the Mumbai Indians the same way as the men have been doing.”

“I think it’s a game changer for all of us because you know, we are going to experience this pressure for the first time and I’m very excited and at the same time, you know, this will entirely change women’s cricket, not only in India, or even in the world cricket.”

In a bidding war, Royal Challengers Bangalore outbid Mumbai Indians to purchase the vice-captain of the Indian team Smriti Mandhana for Rs 3.40 crore. The second most expensive Indian player in the auction was all-rounder Deepti Sharma, who was acquired by UP Warriors for Rs 2.6 crore.
