Australia and Ireland go head to head in match 31 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at the Gabba on October 31. Both teams have had their previous match rained out. Australia’s game against England was washed out while Ireland had their game against Afghanistan washed out as well. The AUS vs IRE match is an opportunity for the Aussies to boost their net run rate.

The super 12 round began on October 22 with the first match between Australia and New Zealand- the finalists of last year’s T20 World Cup. A total of 45 matches will take place during ICC T20 World Cup 2022. A total of 16 teams are part of the tournament. The final will be played on November 13 in Melbourne.

Australian skipper Aaron Finch spoke after the rained out game against arch-rivals England. The match was supposed to be played in Melbourne and Finch said that he has not seen the MCG any wetter than it was since the last couple of days.

“That’s the wettest I’ve ever seen in this stadium. The run-ups were a really issue and around the inner circle, it were very wet. It’s more about players’ safety. We saw one of the Zimbabweans go down the other day. If you are trying to run there, it’s going to be a real issue. Everyone was ready to play, there was a great turnout, disappointing not to get on. The amount of rain that Melbourne has had has been amazing. He (Wade) was going to play tonight. He had few symptoms yesterday but he was good to go. You got to try and win firstly. Then you try and push for the NRR. You can never underestimate Ireland and Afghanistan” said Finch.

Ireland skipper Andrew Balbirnie said he was happy to win against England but is now looking forward to the tournament. Ireland’s win over England was one of the major upsets of this tournament albeit in a rain-marred game.

“We haven’t played a game here, to come and play the tournament favorites, with so many big names and to put on a show is very satisfying. We had a great week in Hobart and to do this was at one of the biggest grounds is pretty special. A few (supporters) of them extended their trip, they are so passionate about the game and we are trying to make the sport big in Ireland. Quite a quick turn around but we have the momentum and will try to make the most of it.” Balbirnie.
