ICC T20 World Cup 2022: “She Keeps Me Grounded All The Time” – Suryakumar Yadav On Wife Devisha Shetty

The 32-year-old India National Cricket Team middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav, who is the fastest player in the history of T20I cricket to reach the 1000 runs in terms of balls faced, has credited his wife Devisha Shetty for keeping him grounded all the time.

Suryakumar Yadav, who is the No.3 ranked batter in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, is currently in Australia for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 and he is expected to do well in the marquee tournament.

During an interaction with Cricket Monthly, Suryakumar Yadav talked about his life coach – his wife Devisha Shetty.

“Oh yes, absolutely (life coach). She keeps me grounded all the time. You do well, you don’t do well. Most important thing is, when I do well and when I come back to the room, she’s like, “I think it was a good day. It’s time for you to enjoy tonight. Forget it tomorrow and move on,” he said.

Suryakumar further recalled his struggle years, saying that the players like Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul and Axar Patel, who played U-23 Asia Cup along with him made their India debuts and he was left behind.

“I used to think like that. I still remember [at 2013] U-23 Asia Cup I played with KL [Rahul], with [Jasprit] Bumrah, Axar [Patel], Harshal [Patel]. There were a lot of players from that time who made their debut for India and they’d started doing really well by the time I got married in 2016.

“This conversation [with Devisha] came two years later. We didn’t actually compare [Suryakumar to the other young players], we wanted to move forward, so we just looked into ourselves what we could do better together so that I could go one step ahead and slowly make a mark,” he said.

Meanwhile, in their tournament opener, India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan with the help of Virat Kohli’s sensational knock, Arshdeep Singh’s brilliant spell and Hardik Pandya’s all-round brilliance. In their second game, India will take on Scott Edwards-led Netherlands National Cricket Team at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday, October 27.
