Delhi Capitals (DC) assistant coach Shane Watson is in awe of the 22-year-old Indian batter, Prithvi Shaw. Watson feels that Shaw has incredible skill and is one of the most talented youngsters going around.

Shaw was retained by DC ahead of the mega auction, knowing the importance of his presence at the top of the order. In the last season, he wreaked havoc with Shikhar Dhawan at the top, and this time around, he will have David Warner by his side.

Looking forward to getting to know Pant, finding out what exactly makes him tick, and finding out how I can help him in any way possible. Prithvi Shaw is someone I find very fascinating. The talent this young guy has is spectacular. He has incredible skill,” he said in a virtual press conference ahead of the season.

Watson was also eager to pair up with Shardul Thakur, who was part of CSK when Watson was active in the IPL. Thakur has improved leaps and bounds since then and will be a huge asset to the DC side.

Another guy I’m looking forward to working with is Shardul Thakur. I worked with him (Thakur) in CSK. He’s an extremely skillful cricketer and is continuing to get better. We are seeing his skill with the ball and quite a few glimpses with the bat as well. He is a genuine all-rounder in all formats, especially T20,” Watson added.

“I feel DC have what it takes to cross the line” – Shane Watson

Watson feels that DC has a well-rounded squad this time around as well, and can go the distance. They reached the playoff stage in the IPL 2021 season but ended up crashing out after a loss to Kolkata Knight Riders.

The one thing that stands out for me is the squad. It is certainly one of the strongest with overseas and Indian players. DC have been close to winning the title and I feel they have what it takes to cross the line. There are not too many holes in the squad let alone the team,” Watson added.
