"Best left-handed opener for India"- perhaps these words best describe Shikhar Dhawan. He is a former Indian player who has been one of the best openers for India.

For a long time, Dhawan was the opening partner for Rohit Sharma.

Shikhar Dhawan is a left-handed batsman who plays as an opener. Although he doesn't get opportunities in the national team, he is an active player in the Indian Premier League.

Dhawan was the player of the tournament award in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013, where India defeated England to win the trophy. Later, he also played for Team India in many ICC events.

Early Life and Career

Shikhar Dhawan was born in Delhi, India on December 5, 1985. His father Mahendra Pal Dhawan supported his cricket coaching since his childhood. Dhawan trained under his childhood coach Tarak Sinha.

Since 2004, Dhawan represented the Delhi team in the domestic circuit. With his brilliant show, he was picked in India's U-17 squad for the Under-17 Asia Cup in 2001. Later, he also played for Team India in Under-19 World Cup 2014.

International Career

Shikhar Dhawan made his international debut in 2010, during an ODI series against Australia. He made his T20 debut next year. In 2013, he also made his Test debut against Australia.

Dhawan grabbed the limelight during the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. He was the highest run-getter for India in the tournament and also broke many records as an opener with Rohit Sharma. After the tournament, Dhawan-Sharma became the best choice of openers for the Indian team.

Dhawan went on to play many games for India and also played in crucial tournaments like ICC ODI World Cup 2015 and 2019, Champions Trophy 2017, T20I World Cup 2014, and Asia Cup 2016 and 2018.

IPL Career

Shikhar Dhawan has been part of IPL since the debut season in 2008. In 2009 and 2010, he was a member of Mumbai Indians. Later, he played for Deccan Chargers from 2011 to 2012.

From 2013 to 2018, Dhawan represented Sunrisers Hyderabad and also won the title in the 2016 season. He later played three seasons with the Delhi Capitals (2019-21). Since IPL 2022, he has been part of Punjab Kings and also leads the side currently.
