Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer believes the all-new-ball rounder’s bowling is a huge plus for India, given his pace and tricky lengths.

India beat Sri Lanka by 91 runs in the series-deciding game in Rajkot as Arshdeep Singh made a great return to grab three wickets after Suryakumar Yadav sparkled with his third T20I century. India defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in the three-match series as they were dismissed for 137 runs in 16.4 overs while chasing a total of 229.

In the third and final T20I in Rajkot, Suryakumar Yadav hit an unbeaten century to lead India to a massive total of 228/5 against Sri Lanka. Suryakumar needed just 19 deliveries to get the 100th run after completing his fifty in 26 balls. He hit nine sixes and seven fours in scoring 112 off 51 balls to remain unbeaten. Rahul Tripathi and Shubman Gill each scored 35 off 16 balls, with Shubman Gill scoring 46 off 36 balls to lead India in scoring.

“Hardik Pandya bowls that close to 140 clicks”: Wasim Jaffer

Wasim Jaffer asserts that during the series, the 29-year-old was a superb bowler and captain, adding:

“Hardik Pandya’s new ball is an advantage, and this is the best position for him. He did it for his IPL franchise. He bowls at a length that the batters dislike. He bowls 140 clicks, taking the ball away and bringing it in. He also plays well with the short ball. So he has a few variations that he uses very well.”

“Hardik Pandya’s fairly good if you can get a couple of overs from him on the powerplay. The only difficulty is his lack of fitness, although he has recovered nicely since the first game. Hardik, the batter, had not shown up as scheduled. Today he didn’t have much to do. However, as a bowler and skipper, he has been flawless,” Wasim Jaffer added.

India won the series 2-1 with a 91-run victory in the third T20I, highlighted by Suryakumar Yadav’s century, marking Hardik Pandya’s maiden series in that role on home soil.
