IPL 2021: Rating The Captains Of All 8 Teams

IPL 2021 is set to commence on April 9, 2021. Mumbai Indians will lock horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match of IPL 2021 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. While Mumbai Indians will be led by Rohit Sharma, Royal Challengers Bangalore will be led by Virat Kohli.

Skippers have a major role to play in Indian Premier League. A top-performing skipper motivates the players to give their best and players also develop a lot of trust in the captain. There are few skippers who have earned accolades for their brilliant leadership in Indian Premier League.

Delhi Capitals have suffered a big blow after their skipper Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of IPL 2021 due to an injury. The team will probably go with Rishabh Pant as the new skipper. As IPL 2021 takes a countdown, here we take a look at captains of all teams in IPL 2021 and give them a rating out of 10 on the basis of their own and team’s performance.

8. Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals) – Rating: 5

Sanju Samson is the weakest skipper among all the captains in IPL 2021. Samson is a great batsman but he has no experience of leading the team. Samson gets a rating of 5 for his captainship. Samson will be under scrutiny for his leadership in IPL 2021 and he can also be changed midway during the season if the team fails to perform well under him.

7. Eoin Morgan (Kolkata Knight Riders) – Rating: 6

Eoin Morgan holds the 7th spot with a rating of 6. Eoin Morgan has a lot of experience as a skipper as he is also the limited-overs skipper for England. However, for Kolkata Knight Riders, he failed to perform well in the last season and the team also performed poorly under his captainship. He gets a rating of 6 out of 10.

6. KL Rahul (Punjab Kings) – Rating: 6

KL Rahul is a great batsman and scores a lot of runs for his team. However, he does not have the skills to defend the score. He was not able to guide bowlers in IPL 2020. Even after scoring a mammoth total, his team lost a match to Rajasthan Royals. KL Rahul is great with the bat but he cannot guide his bowlers which is a flaw. He gets a rating of 6 out of 10.

5. Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals) – Rating: 6.5

Rishabh Pant is expected to lead Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021. He has a rating of 6.5. Rishabh Pant is a great batsman and he also guides bowlers from behind the stumps. However, he has very little experience as a skipper which is a disadvantage for the left-handed batsman.

4. Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore) – Rating: 7

Virat Kohli is a great performer for his team. He is the highest run-scorer in the tournament which reveals the hard work he has put for his team Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL. He is a spectacular batsman who takes the responsibility of the team on his shoulders. Under his captainship, Royal Challengers Bangalore have reached IPL final two times. However, he has failed to win the title on both occasions. Kohli gets a rating of 7 out of 10 as a captain.

3. David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad) – Rating: 7.5

David Warner is another brilliant skipper in IPL. He leads the team Sunrisers Hyderabad. David Warner is a brilliant batsman as he has been the highest run-scorer in three IPL tournaments. He is also the 3rd highest run-scorer in IPL so far. David Warner led Sunrisers Hyderabad to their first IPL trophy in IPL 2016. Under his captainship, Sunrisers Hyderabad have qualified for playoffs in every season since IPL 2017. David Warner gets a rating of 7.5 out of 10 as a skipper.

2. MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings)- Rating: 7.5

MS Dhoni is a very successful skipper as he has led Chennai Super Kings to 3 IPL titles so far. Moreover, the team have qualified for playoffs in 10 seasons out of 11 under MS Dhoni’s leadership. He also has a lot of experience as a skipper as has led Chennai Super Kings since the first season.

He gives great assistance to bowlers from behind the stumps and also scores big to win the matches for his team. So MS Dhoni gets a rating of 7.5 out of 10 for his leadership.

1. Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians) – Rating: 8

Rohit Sharma is the most successful skipper in the Indian Premier League so far. He led the Mumbai Indians for the first time in IPL 2013 and the team won the title in the season. Under Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians have won 5 IPL titles which is the most by any team. Rohit Sharma is also the 4th highest run-scorer in IPL so he has given great support to the team with his batting. Rohit Sharma is the best skipper in IPL and gets a rating of 8 out of 10.
