Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana potentially produced the ball of the tournament in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The match between the teams is taking place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

After losing early wickets in the chase of 213 runs, Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Aiden Markram was keeping his team in the hunt. He was slowly easing into his innings and a lot of hopes were reliant on him to help his team get close to the target at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Aiden Markram played some crips shots in his innings and looked good to the eyes. The Proteas batter, who came to bat at No.4, bailed the team out of trouble a bit after they lost three wickets inside the powerplay, thanks to the brilliance of Tushar Deshpande with the ball.

It seemed that Aiden Markram would come up with something special and take his team home. But that wasn't the case as his stay at the crease was cut short by the brilliance of Matheesha Pathirana, who bowled a sensational delivery to send the batter packing.

Matheesha Pathirana bowled a 147kph yorker on the stumps that were bent in slightly. Aiden Markram tried to force a drive but was beaten comprehensively as the ball went on to crash into the middle stump. The batter had no clue about the fiery ball and had to take the long walk back to the pavilion.

Here's the video:

Aiden Markram played a decent hand for his team at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The batter ended with an innings of 32 runs off 26 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 123.07 and also slammed 4 boundaries in his innings to keep his team in the hunt.

After Aiden Markram got out, Sunrisers Hyderabad came under pressure and lost wickets in clusters. Tushar Deshpande picked four wickets whereas Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman claimed two wickets. Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur also chipped in as Chennai Super Kings bundled out Sunrisers Hyderabad for 134 runs to win the game by 78 runs.

I always challenge the batter to hit - Tushar Deshpande after his match-winning effort

Tushar Deshpande talked about his four-wicket haul and stated that he was patient and that paid off for him. He added that he challenged the batters to hit the length and it worked for him and revealed that they had specific plans for the SRH batters. He told broadcasters:

"When we came to bowl, the only plan was to have patience against SRH who are quite aggressive in the powerplay and that paid dividends for us. Bowling that length in the powerplay is crucial, even if I get hit, I always challenge the batter to hit that length again and it worked for me today. The ground was soaking wet, it swung for a couple of balls and then it did not. It was a bit sticky and I thought we used the pitch well. We had a specific plan - even if they hit a good ball, we will focus on our plans and not get carried away by them."

Chennai Super Kings will be next seen in action when they will take on Punjab Kings in their next game on Wednesday (1st May).
