Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting will shortly join his Delhi capitals management ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Delhi have a remaining purse of 47.5 crores in which to build a strong squad.

The challenge for them would be to get back their core in the auction. Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Avesh Khan and Shreyas Iyer formed the core along with the retained players.

Ahead of the auction, Ricky Ponting has shared his opinion on a few exciting prospects of Indian cricket. He thinks that the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Avesh Khan are the future superstars of Indian cricket. Gaikwad and Avesh are currently a part of the Indian ODI squad for the series against the West Indies. They are a part of the T20I squad too.

“I hung on to one at the Delhi Capitals this year, one of our retained players is Prithvi Shaw, who we saw some absolute brilliance from through the IPL season last year,” said Ponting on Friday. He further said that Shaw is still a work in progress and learning the nuances of the game.

“Everyone’s known a bit about him (Shaw) for the last couple of years. I still think he is learning a lot about himself as a person and learning a lot about himself as a player. I am not sure I have seen many better to be totally honest,” the Delhi Capitals coach added.

He also had his say on Ruturaj Gaikwad. The right-hander ended as the top-scorer in IPL 2021 (635 runs) and was retained by Chennai Super Kings heading into the IPL 2022 mega auction.

“The other one that I thought was absolutely outstanding and I have only seen him in T20 cricket, but that’s Ruturaj Gaikwad from Chennai Super Kings. He ended up being a part of the winning IPL team, a young guy that got a chance at the start of the season.

“He is someone who is I am sure going to play all three formats for India in the coming years. On the batting side of things, there are those couple there”.

Ponting concluded by keeping a word on Avesh Khan. He picked up 24 wickets and ended as the second-highest wicket-taker. However, he is yet to make his debut for India.

“We have Avesh Khan at Delhi Capitals last year who had an unbelievably good IPL season. He has been included in a couple of Indian squads,” Ponting concluded saying.
