Delhi Capitals have a purse remaining of 47.5 crores ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. They have the lowest purse available among all the 10 teams. What will be difficult for the franchise will be to remake the core that they had between 2018-2021. Delhi have 21 slots to fill in, seven of those are overseas players. The overseas players are from different countries like Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka among others.

The franchise retained Rishabh Pant (INR 16 crore), Axar Patel (INR 9 crore), Prithvi Shaw (INR 7.5 crore), Anrich Nortje (INR 6.5 crore). In the process, they let go of Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan, two players who scored the most runs for the franchise. Delhi’s domestic cricket circuit is still among the best in the country. Yash Dhull,  the India aU-19 captain who helped India to their fifth U-19 title is also from Delhi.

Unfortunately, due to strict rules of the BCCI, the U-19 players might not feature in the upcoming auctions.  Meanwhile, in this article, we will take a look at five Delhi players Delhi Capitals can target at the mega auction.

Dhawan has been one of the veterans in the IPL. In the last three years, he is amongst the top run-getters in the cash-rich league. He scored 1726 runs in the last three years scoring 12 fifties and two hundreds in the meantime. With his experience, he can also guide a young captain in Rishabh Pant on leading the side to their first-ever IPL title. Among the players, Delhi are looking to target, Dhawan surely will be on the top of that list.

Nitish Rana

Rana can be an ideal replacement for Shreyas Iyer in the middle-order. While he majorly opened for KKR for the few years that he played with the franchise, he can certainly be more useful for Delhi Capitals in the middle-order. He can also roll his arm over if and when the team will require him to. He is a brilliant fielder to boost his credentials as well. If Delhi is looking for a good Indian player to invest in for the future, Nitish Rana might be a good choice.

Navdeep Saini

Saini can be a good addition to Delhi’s pace attack. The franchise has already retained Anrich Nortje as one of their overseas pacers. He can form a good combination with Navdeep Saini in the long run. Saini has also played recent international games across formats for India. With Delhi Capitals searching for good Indian pacers, Saini should be one of their go-to players in the auction.

Ishant Sharma

The lanky Indian pacer is one of the veterans of the modern cricket team. He has played over 100 Tests for India. Ishant is just 33 years of age and has a few years of cricket left in him. He might not be a long-term investment but can certainly play for another three to four years. He was with Delhi Capitals before they released him ahead of the mega auction, They have the option to buy him back possibly for a much lower price.

Negi can fulfil multiple roles for any franchise. He can bat, bowl and is a good fielder. He has developed into a good all-rounder. However, he is yet to produce his best in the IPL. With teams needing a lot of Indian players to form their squads, Negi can be one of the players, Delhi Capitals can look to rope in. He can give his team four overs and tonk the ball hard as and when the team needs to. He was previously a part of the franchise in 2016.
