IPL 2023: 3 Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Players Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Can Target

Sunrisers Hyderabad will be one of the teams looking forward to the IPL 2023 auction. The auction will be held in Kochi on December 23 with several players going under the hammer. Each of the 10 teams will by then figure out exactly the players they would want in their respective team. SRH finished eighth in IPL 2022 winning six and losing 8 games. They are looking to revamp their entire squad and the mini-auction will be a good opportunity with several franchises releasing many of their players.

In addition to their remaining purse, each team will be given an additional five crores to spend this year. As per a BCCI official, the overall purse will be between 90-95 crores.

The teams have been asked to submit the list of players the franchises are willing to release by November 15 by the BCCI. All the teams are expected to release the list of extra or unused players so that they can go into the IPL 2023 auction looking to fill the gaps.

As per reports in Inside Sport, KKR are expected to release Aaron Finch, Ajinkya Rahane, Venkatesh Iyer, Mohammad Nabi, and Chamika Karunaratne among a few others in their squad. In this article, we take a look at three KKR players Sunrisers Hyderabad might target in the upcoming auction.

1) Aaron Finch

KKR was Aaron Finch’s ninth IPL franchise. He joined the side as Alex Hales’ replacement in 202. There are reports that Kolkata are aiming to rope in Hales this time around and thus wants to release the Australian T20I skipper. He scored 86 runs in five innings at an average of 17.20. He was roped in for just 1.5 crores as a replacement player.

Finch has played previously for SRH in 2014 scoring 309 runs at an average of 28.09 and a strike rate touching 120. He still is one of the top run-getters in T20 cricket and well known in Indian conditions. SRH might be interested in buying him back.

2) Mohammad Nabi

Mohammad Nabi has also previously played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Since making his debut in the IPL in 2017, he played 17 matches for SRH before they released him ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. He scored 180 runs and picked up 13 wickets for them in the meantime before being released. KKR picked him up for 1 crore but did not give him a game in the season.

The franchise might be interested in buying him back given his international experience as a T20 cricketer. Nabi gave up on his national captaincy after Afghanistan’s exit from the T20 World Cup. The side lost all their games in the Super 12 stage.

3) Chamika Karunaratne

Karunaratne was roped in by KKR for 50 lakhs. He made his T20I debut for Sri Lanka in 2021 scoring 257 runs and picking up 21 wickets. However, as it turned out, he did not feature in any of the games for KKR last season like Nabi.

He is a useful all-rounder for Sri Lanka and Sunrisers Hyderabad might like to use those traits in the upcoming season. Karunaratne was a part of the Sri Lankan squad that played in the recent T20 World Cup in Australia.
