Former Pakistan skipper and interim Chief Selector, Shahid Afridi, ha made a big statement on Sarfaraz Ahmed after the latter made a gritty century to mark his comeback to international cricket. Sarfaraz’s 118 off 176 balls ensured that Pakistan did not lose the second Test and ended the series in a draw.

The former Pakistan skipper scored 118 off 176 balls with nine fours and a six ensuring that the hosts did not lose the second and final Test. Pakistan finally posted 304 for nine ending the match in a draw with the visitors one wicket away and the hosts 15 short of their 319-run target. Sarfaraz lost his wicket in the 87th over but the hosts managed to hold onto the draw.

Sarfaraz Ahmed replaced Mohammad Rizwan in the second Test. He made an immediate impact scoring 41 and 118 in the two innings of the Test match. However, Pakistan interim selector Shahid Afridi has made it clear that it is Rizwan who is the first-choice keeper for Pakistan going forward. His response has put an end to Sarfaraz’s hopes of making a comeback for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

“I’m very happy that Saifi has made a comeback and given such an amazing performance, but Mohammad Rizwan is available and he is our main wicket-keeper in both T20Is and ODIs. God forbid if Rizwan gets injured or if he’s tired, we’ll then consider other options. Let’s not mix someone’s Test performance with that of limited overs” Afridi said at a press conference.

We Have Mohammad Haris And We Are Grooming Him: Shahid Afridi

He further said that Pakistan are looking for other wicketkeeping options in the future and grooming and pointed out Mohammad Haris as one of the options.

“We have Haris and we’re grooming him. He’ll be sent on Pakistan A tours. He’s a very good option in T20Is if Rizwan is not available”, he said.

In 51 Tests, Sarfaraz has slammed 2992 runs, packed with four hundreds and 21 half-centuries. His 118-knock is also his highest score in Test cricket and his first ton in Test cricket since 2014Meanwhile, he has grabbed 2315 runs in 117 ODIs with a high score of 105. In ODI cricket, he has registered two tons, and 11 fifties. In 61 T20Is, he has bagged 818 runs, with a high score of 89 and three fifties.
