The BCCI, on Thursday (June 6), announced the men’s and women’s domestic schedule for the upcoming 2024-25 domestic season. India's domestic season will begin with the red-ball format.
Duleep Trophy will be the curtain-raiser and is scheduled to be played from September 5 to September 22, in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. It will be followed by the Irani Trophy in Mumbai from October 1. In a notable decision, the BCCI has divided the Ranji Trophy into two phases. As a result, the league phase will be taking place in October while the knockouts will be taking place in February.
In the first phase of the Ranji Trophy, the first five league games will take place before the white-ball tournaments begin. The first white-ball competition of the season will be taking place from November 23 to December 15 in the form of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where the teams will fight it out for the T20 supremacy.
The List A tournament, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, will be played from December 21 to January 18. After the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the Ranji Trophy will resume with the final two league matches before the knockouts begin. The BCCI has also decided to remove the Deodhar Trophy once again. The competition was reintroduced last year after an absence of four years.
"The Domestic Home Season 2024-25 has been meticulously planned, taking into account multiple factors to fortify the core of domestic cricket while prioritizing player well-being," stated BCCI.
No toss in the CK Nayudu Trophy:
The BCCI has come up with an innovative step for the upcoming domestic season. The board has decided to abolish the toss for the CK Nayudu Trophy. According to the new rules, the visiting team will be given the opportunity to decide whether to bat or bowl first. The BCCI has also introduced a revamped points system for the tournament.
