Despite Australia winning the first game of the series against India, it was a close game in which Australia nearly finished off the 209-run mark. In the midst of this, captain Rohit Sharma amusingly grabbed Dinesh Karthik’s neck, which created headlines.

When Suryakumar Yadav was questioned about it, he made it plain that there was no animosity involved. It was the Indian skipper at his shaky best. 

After Karthik failed to express much interest in reconsidering a decision made in favour of the Australian Glenn Maxwell, the incident occurred. The game was evenly matched at Mohali’s Punjab Cricket Association Stadium until India decided to review it, and the Ultra-edge revealed a spike after the ball passed the bat, leading to the removal of dangerman Maxwell.

The cameras saw an ‘aggressive’ Rohit grabbing for wicketkeeper Karthik’s neck shortly after the judgement was reversed. 

The video quickly gained popularity as people shared their own amusing interpretations of the gesture. 

“Rahi baat wo DRS ki toh kabhi kabhi peeche tak awaz jati nahi hai aur left and right mein acche se awaz ati hai edge ki aur unka wo alag hi banter hai, itne saalo se jante hai ek dusre ko aur ek saath itna khela hua hai toh itna toh hasi mazak thoda banta hai.

(Talking about that DRS, you don’t hear the edges clearly from behind the stumps at times but you do from the right or left side of the field. And that was their banter. They know each other for a long time and have played a lot of cricket together so that kind of fun moments are allowed between them),” Suryakumar Yadav said in the pre-match presser. 

Karthik wasn’t completely persuaded since he didn’t hear anything, but DRS later proved that Umesh Yadav had caused a nice nick to be caused by Maxwell’s bat.
