Sri Lanka will lock horns with Australia in the 2nd Test of the ongoing series. The SL vs AUS 2nd Test commences on July 8 (Friday). The venue of the clash is Galle International Stadium in Galle. Sri Lanka is led by Dimuth Karunaratne in SL vs AUS Test series.

Pat Cummins is the skipper of Australia in the series. Sri Lanka is 0-1 down in the two-match series. The hosts lost the 1st Test to Australia by 10 wickets. Ahead of SL vs AUS 2nd Test, here we talk about Sri Lanka’s predicted playing XI against Australia in the match.

Pathum Nissanka

Pathum Nissanka might be the opener for Sri Lanka in the SL vs AUS 2nd Test as well. The right-handed batsman scored 23 runs in one innings in the 1st Test. He started well but failed to convert his knock into a big score. In the 2nd innings, he scored 14 runs.

Dimuth Karunaratne (C)

Dimuth Karunaratne is the skipper of Sri Lanka in SL vs AUS Test series and will lead the team in the 2nd Test as well. In the 1st Test, the left-handed batter scored 28 and 23 in both innings. He could not give a good start to the team. In the 2nd Test, he will need to pull his socks up with Nissanka to provide a good start to the team.

Kusal Mendis

Kusan Mendis might be the one-down batsman for Sri Lanka in SL vs AUS 2nd Test. Mendis failed to score well in the 1st Test. He scored 3 and 8 in both innings. However, Mendis is an experienced batsman for Sri Lanka and is a crucial member of the team. He is likely to get a call in the playing XI in the 2nd Test as well.

Angelo Mathews

Angelo Mathews might be a middle-order batsman for Sri Lanka in the next match as well. Matthews scored 39 runs in the 1st innings of the 1st Test before he was ruled out of the match due to COVID. However, he has recovered and is expected to be part of the team in the next game.

Oshada Fernando

Oshada Fernando might be another middle-order batsman for Sri Lanka. Since Dhananjaya de Silva has caught COVID, Fernando will be a good choice to replace him. Fernando was a replacement for Mathews in the 1st Test. In the only innings he batted, he scored 12 runs.

Dinesh Chandimal

Dinesh Chandimal might be another middle-order batsman for Sri Lanka in SL vs AUS 2nd Test. The right-handed batsman failed to come up with a good show in the 1st Test. He got out for a duck in the 1st innings and scored 13 runs in the 2nd innings. Chandimal will aim to come up with a better show in the next game.

Niroshan Dickwella (WK)

Niroshan Dickwella might be the wicketkeeper for Sri Lanka in the SL vs AUS 2nd Test as well. The left-handed batsman played a fabulous knock of 58 runs in the 1st Test. His knock helped Sri Lanka to cross 200 runs on the board. Dickwella looks in good touch and will be a crucial batter for the team in the next game.

Ramesh Mendis

Ramesh Mandis might be one of the spinners for Sri Lanka in SL vs AUS 2nd Test. The right-arm off-spinner bowled a beautiful spell in the 1st innings of the last match, grabbing a 4-wicket haul. He will aim for a similar show in the next game as well.

Lasith Embuldeniya might be another spinner for Sri Lanka in the 2nd Test against Australia. The left-arm spinner failed to get any wicket in the 1st Test. He bowled 15 overs in the match and conceded 73 runs during his spell. Lasith will look to grab some wickets in the 2nd Test.

Maheesh Theekshana

Maheesh Theekshana has been added to Sri Lanka’s squad due to multiple COVID cases among the Sri Lanka squad. Theekshana might be another spinner who can be picked in the playing XI in the 2nd Test. The spin-friendly Galle Stadium will compel Sri Lanka to pick more spinners in the playing XI and Theekshana will be a very good option for the same.

To replace pacer Asitha Fernando who has tested positive for COVID, Sri Lanka might pick Vishwa Fernando in the 2nd Test. Vishwa Fernando has a good Test experience of 17 games, in which he accounts for 43 wickets at an average of 38.28.
