Ace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will not be available for the second Test between South Africa and Bangladesh which begins at Port Elizabeth from April 7 onwards. Shakib had to return home from South Africa after the third ODI due to a family emergency.
Shakib had initially ruled himself out of South Africa despite being named in the national squad for the three-match ODI and two-Test series. He said that he was burnout from playing too much cricket and that was not in the right headspace to be touring South Africa. He had made 60 runs and picked 5 wickets in the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.
The BCB then gave him a break from all cricket till April end to recuperate from him being “mentally fatigued and physically stressed”. However, the all-rounder made a u-turn quickly and then made himself available for the South Africa tour, following a meeting with board president Nazmul Hassan in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh created history by beating South Africa 2-1 in the three-match ODI series, their maiden ODI victory over the Proteas and first-ever series win as well over them in their own backyard.
