Although they gained Test status in 2021, Bangladesh women's cricket team is yet to play any Test. Their journey in international cricket began in the year 2007 when they played two matches against Thailand and won both of them. Later, they participated in the 2007 ACC Women's Tournament and went on to win it.
Four years later in 2011, Bangladesh were granted ODI status by the ICC after they finished fifth in the 2011 Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier. They played their first ODI against Ireland in 2011. In 2012, they faced Ireland once again in their first T20I.
In 2014, Bangladesh women's cricket team played a major international tournament for the first time when they participated in the 2014 Women's T20 World Cup as hosts. They have participated in every edition of the women's T20 World Cup since then.
In 2018, the Bangladesh women's cricket team created history by winning the women's Asia Cup. They also became only the second team after India to win the continental championship.
