Guyana Amazon Warriors is one of the most consistent outfits in the Caribbean Premier League. They have finished as the runner’s up on five different occasions. However, they are yet to clinch a CPL title. The Warriors finished in the top four last year as well but lost to St. Lucia Kings in the semi-final 2. Ahead of a new season, Nicholas Pooran and Co. would be aiming to claim their maiden title.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors will kickstart their campaign against the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders. Here’s a look at the predicted playing XI of Guyana Amazon Warriors for the clash on Thursday.

Chandrapaul Hemraj opened for the Warriors for the majority of the tournament. He blew hot and cold in the competition, having scored 140 runs in 8 matches at an average of 17.50. Batting at the top of the order, his strike rate was a major concern. Ahead of a new season, the team would expect him to deliver better performances at the top of the order.

Brandon King

Brandon King too didn’t look at his best in the last edition. In 11 games, he managed 116 runs at an average of 11.60. He scored one half-century in the tournament and would be keen to deliver much more this season. His last three scores in the tournament read 3,0,0. King would be wanting to forget the past performances and make a fresh start.

Shimron Hetymyer:

Shimron-Hetmyer

A match-winner in the shortest format, Shimron Hetmyer has the ability to win matches singlehandedly. He will once again be taking the number three spot and thus holds a great responsibility in the batting line-up. He starred in a few matches for the team last season. In 11 games, he managed to score 267 runs at an average of 33.37.

Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran will take the leadership duties for the 2021 season. Nicholas Pooran will be the biggest bet for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL 2021 edition. If the franchise fancies a chance to win the title, his role is going to be crucial, especially with the bat. The last edition of CPL saw Pooran scoring 245 runs in 11 matches at an average of 27.22, including two half-centuries.

Mohammad Hafeez

M Hafeez has been included in the side for this edition as an overseas signing. Hafeez has been a prolific run-scorer in T20 cricket. He has plied his trade in different franchise tournaments across the globe. Besides, he is also a regular member of Pakistan’s T20 cricket team. Hafeez will add experience to the Warriors’ batting lineup.

Shoaib Malik

Shoaib Malik will join hands with Hafeez for the upcoming edition. Both will play for the same team in CPL 2021. The duo will hopefully bring good fortunes to the team. Shoaib Malik has developed himself into a great T20 finisher. He is at the fag end of his career but has still got the ability to turn the game in the space of a few overs.

Keemo Paul

Keemo Paul is a vital cog for the team keeping in mind his ability to contribute with both bat and ball. He can take the opposition to the cleaners on his day and if he manages to win a few games for the side, the team would be pretty happy with his services. Pual batted in seven innings last season and scored 77 runs at an average of 15.40. With the ball, he picked 9 wickets at an average of 23.88.

Kevin Sinclair

Naveen-ul-Haq
Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq

Naveen Ul-Haq would lead the pace attack of Guyana Amazon Warriors. He made his CPL debut last year for Guyana Amazon Warriors. In 10 matches, he picked 11 wickets at an average of 19.37. He impressed one and all with his accurate line and lengths. He will definitely be a player to watch out for.

Imran Tahir

Imran Tahir’s spells in the tournament are key to Amazon Warriors’ fortunes. His experience would be really helpful for the side. Tahir is coming on the back of some top-notch performances in the recently concluded The Hundred tournament. He would be hoping to continue his good run in CPL 2021.
