Babar Azam Leapfrogs Dawid Malan To Become The Number 1 T20I Batsman

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has become the number 1 ranked batsman in the ICC T20I batsman rankings.

Babar Azam is having an incredible run recently and he has looked like an unstoppable force in limited-overs cricket. He smashed two consecutive half-centuries in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 which has helped him to leapfrog star England batsman Dawid Malan in the rankings.

So far in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 Pakistan has played 4 games and Babar has smashed half-centuries in three of them. He smashed unbeaten 68 in the tournament opener against India, 51 against Afghanistan and 70 against Namibia. Also under him Pakistan after winning 4 consecutive games have made it to the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.

The 27-year-old Babar has 834 rating points in the T20I batsman rankings and is 36 points ahead of Dawid Malan who has 798 points. Notably, Malan had been at the top of the T20I batting rankings since 29 November last year.

Talking about Babar Azam he is also the number one ranked One Day International batsman with 873 rating points.

England batters Jos Buttler and Jason Roy have made a significant jump in the rankings. Jos Buttler who had smashed a wonderful century against Sri Lanka has gained eight slots and has reached his career-best 9th position. Opener Jason Roy has jumped five places and is ranked 14th.

Wanindu Hasaranga Becomes Number 1 T20I Bowler

Star Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga after his sensational run in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 has become the number one ranked T20I bowler by surpassing South Africa spinner Tabraiz Shams who was sitting at the top of the rankings since 10 April this year.

Notably, the top 4 T20I bowlers Wanindu Hasaranga, Tabraiz Shamsi, Adil Rashid and Rashid Khan are all wrist spinners.

Meanwhile, in the spin dominated rankings Proteas speedster Anrich Nortje has seen a big rise, he has gained 18 slots to reach the seventh position.

In the T20I all-rounder side of things, Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Nabi both have 271 rating points.
