India National Cricket Team have secured the No.1 position in the annual ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday, 4 May.

India under new captain Rohit Sharma have been in excellent form in T20 Internationals after a poor run in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, where they lost games against Pakistan and New Zealand to get knocked out of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma-led side India have registered a whitewash over New Zealand, West Indies, and Sri Lanka at home after the disappointment in the global event.

“The new rankings reflect all T20I series completed since May 2019, with those completed prior to May 2021 weighted at 50 per cent and subsequent series weighted at 100 per cent,” ICC stated.

Meanwhile, India have 270 rating points in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings, and they are followed by England (265), Pakistan (261), South Africa (253), and Australia (251) in the top 5.

Kane Williamson’s New Zealand are placed at No.6 with 250 points and West Indies are at No.7 with 240 points. The No.8, No.9, and No.10 in the Rankings are Bangladesh (233 points), Sri Lanka (230 points), and Afghanistan (226 points).

Australia National Cricket Team have found themselves at the top of the annual ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings. Australia have been in dominant form in the purest form of the game and they have delivered a stellar performance under the new skipper Pat Cummins.

Pat Cummins and co. registered a dominant Ashes win over Joe Root’s England at home and then they defeated the Babar Azam-led Pakistan in Pakistan to retain their No.1 position in the Test Rankings as well as World Test Championship Rankings.

The new rankings reflect all Test series completed since May 2019, with those completed prior to May 2021 weighted at 50% and subsequent series weighted at 100%,” ICC asserted.

Meanwhile, Australia (128) are followed by India (119), World Test Champions New Zealand (111), South Africa (110), and Pakistan (93) in the top 5. Also, England, after their terrible performance, are at the No.6 position with 88 points. Notably, England have won just one Test match in the last 12 months.

Coming to the One Day International Rankings, Kane Williamson’s New Zealand have claimed the No.1 spot in the ICC ODI Team Rankings with 125 points. However, they are not very far ahead of England as Eoin Morgan’s team have 124 points.

Meanwhile, the No.3, No.4, and No.5 spots are occupied by Australia (107), India (105), and Pakistan (102).

“The rankings cover ODIs from May 2019 to May 2022, with 50% weighting for the first two years of results and 100% in the most recent 12 months,” ICC said.
