Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter Mukul Choudhary revealed that his daily training routine involves hitting over one hundred sixes. The young cricketer shared his secret after taking apart the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowling attack and securing a thrilling victory at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, April 9.
Chasing a target of 182, the Super Giants secured a last-ball victory in their recent match. Choudhary smashed an unbeaten 54 off just 27 deliveries to complete the chase. The batter came in when his team was under pressure. After scoring just two runs from his first eight balls, he smashed seven sixes.
Practise Hitting 100-150 Sixes Every Day - Mukul Choudhary Explains Power
Mukul Choudhary's bat speed and natural power helped Lucknow Super Giants chase down 182 runs. The Rajasthan batter said that his strength comes naturally, but he also works hard in training. He added that hitting many sixes daily helps him build bat speed.
“My body is a little powerful, and that has come to me naturally. I also practise hitting 100-150 sixes every day, so the bat speed develops if you keep doing it. I have been practicing a lot for the last five to six months, so it has come into my game,” said Mukul Choudhary.
Practised That Shot Since Childhood - MS Dhoni Inspires Mukul Choudhary
Mukul Choudhary played the famous helicopter shot against Vaibhav Arora in the 17th over. The young batter credited former Indian captain MS Dhoni for inspiring his aggressive finishing style. Choudhary added that hitting a perfect yorker for a six can break the confidence of fast bowlers.
“I have practised that shot since childhood. I always liked that, and the way MS Dhoni finished an innings. He used to hit a six even off a yorker. If you even hit that kind of a delivery for six, the bowler thinks about doing something different,” said Choudhary.
Lucknow Super Giants were in deep trouble, needing 54 runs from 24 balls with seven wickets down and only the tail left to support Mukul. He had a slow start, scoring just one run from his first five deliveries, but then smashed 53 runs off his next 22 balls.
He Showed Faith In Me - Mukul Choudhary Praises Justin Langer
Lucknow Super Giants bought Mukul Choudhary for nearly 3 crore rupees. Head coach Justin Langer said that he could turn Choudhary into a dangerous lower-order batter in India. Choudhary also thanked Langer for spending time with him during regular net sessions before the tournament.
"He's so young, and he's got that look in his eyes. He's hungry," Langer said. "You know when you first come in, you try so hard, and [this victory will] just be a massive moment in his life and his career."
"When a big coach like him says something like that about you, I'm sure he has seen something in you," Choudhary said. "He showed faith in me, so it was my time to repay it. During practice, he spends 10-15 minutes exclusively with me every day. Whatever he taught me turned out to be helpful. So I just did my job after he trusted me to do it."
