Australia achieved a historic milestone after defeating England by an innings and 122 runs in the women’s Ashes Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Aussies dominated their rivals in the pink-ball Test and completed the match in just three days to record the first-ever women’s Ashes clean sweep.

The match saw a women’s Test world record attendance of 35,365. Alana King (5/53) and Ash Gardner (4/39) were the standout performers for Australia in the final innings. King was named Player of the Series after taking nine wickets across both innings of the Test match, including the ball of the summer.

England Bowled Out for 148 Runs in Second Innings of Test

England was dismissed for 170 in their first innings of the recently concluded Test match. The hosts were bowled out for 440 runs after centuries from Annabel Sutherland and Beth Mooney. Sutherland scored 163 runs, becoming the first woman to have her name on the MCC Honour Board of Centurions.

England showed some resilience in the second innings with a solid partnership between Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight. Ash Gardner claimed the key wicket of Knight, who scored 32 runs. After that, England collapsed and lost their final nine wickets for just 69 runs. They were bowled out for 148.

Australia Decimate England With Historic Whitewash

England lost both the ODI and T20 series 3-0, resulting in a whitewash. Australia achieved a historic 16-0 points whitewash, the first since the introduction of the multi-format series in the women’s Ashes in 2013.

Before this, neither Australia nor England had ever completed a clean sweep in a series with three or more matches. England, who is currently ranked No. 2 in both ODIs and T20s, have not won a game in Australia since the 2017-18 series, with the last series in 2021-22 ending in two no results and a draw.

Lovely To See The Crowds Come In And Support Us - Alyssa Healy

Alyssa Healy, speaking after the match, expressed her excitement over the series win. She said that England attempted to fight back but praised her team's ability to shut them down. Healy highlighted the enjoyment of playing at top stadiums and the great atmosphere created by the returning crowds.

"Feels amazing, got to give credit to McGrath as well for the T20I series. England were clawing their way back at times but somebody came in to shut the door on them. The whole series was great, playing in some of the best stadiums and getting crowds back in was great."

"This was really cool as well, three days at the MCG. Really glad to see both the men's and the women's game being well supported here in Australia. It was lovely to see the crowds come in and support us throughout this Ashes series. It was great to experience something close to what we experienced in 2020 here at the MCG. I would also like to thank the 13-14 players who were all part of this tour for us."
