A 24-year-old player from Sialkot has stunned the sporting world by announcing his retirement from Pakistan cricket. Shahzaib Bhatti cited dirty internal politics, deep-rooted corruption, and a severe lack of structure in the domestic system as the primary reasons behind his early retirement from the sport.

The youngster had played a massive role in Sialkot Region’s thrilling one-wicket win over Peshawar Region in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2024-25 final. However, Bhatti was repeatedly sidelined despite his match-winning performance and was unfairly forced to sit on the bench for nearly 40 consecutive matches.

"Goodbye Pakistan cricket. At 24 years of age I am leaving Pakistan cricket. I won the Quaid e Azam final last year on live television. Since then I've been benched for almost 40 games in a row," Shahzaib Bhatti posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Bhatti first caught attention in late 2024 when he took a five-wicket haul in just his second first-class match. He later played a crucial role in Sialkot’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2025 final win. He scored 40 and an unbeaten 32. However, he did not play another first-class game for over 14 months.

My Only Dream Is to Represent Pakistan But Politics... -

Shahzaib Bhatti spoke about the dark reality of the national cricket setup. He blamed the toxic internal politics for completely ruining his promising career and forcing many other extremely talented players to move away from the beloved sport forever.

"My only dream is to represent Pakistan. But politics, corruption, lack of structure has ruined my career. And many others I now know why everyone is leaving Pakistan cricket. Goodbye," he added.

Shahzaib Bhatti’s Brief Domestic Career and Growing Frustration in Pakistan Cricket

Before his sudden retirement announcement, the 24-year-old played two first-class matches, one List A game, and a single T20 match. In red-ball cricket, he took five wickets for 236 runs against Lahore Whites in December 2024.

Shahzaib Bhatti also made his List A debut for Eshaal in the President's Cup Grade 1, taking two wickets. He made his T20 debut against Rawalpindi, where he claimed one wicket while giving away 47 runs in his four overs.

There has been growing frustration among domestic players who feel completely ignored by the management despite putting in years of hard work and delivering solid performances in crucial crunch situations.

During the recent T20 World Cup 2026, veteran players like Shoaib Akhtar, Shoaib Malik, and Mohammad Hafeez heavily criticized this severely failing domestic structure.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan selection committee is currently facing massive public backlash for picking inexperienced youngsters for the upcoming ODI series against Bangladesh following their shocking early Super 8 exit.
