Former India National Cricket Team cricketer Piyush Chawla has shared his take on Rishabh Pant's poor form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He believes that it has nothing to do with price tag but he isn't in the best form in white-ball cricket.
Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant has come under massive pump for his poor performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The left-hander has struggled big time to get going, and this also has been the reason behind the team's poor performances in the league.
Rishabh Pant flops in IPL 2025
Rishabh Pant, who became the most expensive player in the history of the IPL after he was bought by Lucknow Super Giants in the auction for INR 27 crore, has failed to justify his price tag. The keeper-batter has looked torrid with the bat in the three games so far and has faced a lot of criticism.
With Rishabh Pant getting such a high IPL contract, it was expected that he would set the stage on fire. However, so far, that hasn't been the case at all. He started the league with a 6-ball duck against Delhi Capitals and then scored just 15 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In the most recent game against Punjab Kings, he scored just 2 runs. Not only his batting, but his leadership too has come under scanner as some of his decisions have been criticized as well. With still 11 games left in the league stage for Lucknow Super Giants, he would be keen to make a comeback.
I don't think it's the price tag that's affecting him - Piyush Chawla
Piyush Chawla talked about Pant's poor form, saying that the price tag isn't affecting him, but him being away from white-ball cricket has been the reason behind his poor form. He also admitted that the keeper-batter has failed to live up to the expectations. Speaking on JioStar, he said:
"Knowing Rishabh Pant, I don't think it's the price tag that's affecting him. However, he is currently not in the best of form.
"He has been out of the Indian white-ball circuit, and coming into this tournament as the captain of a franchise, there were high expectations of him. A lot happened last year, and naturally, a lot was expected from him this season."
He's going through a rough patch where things just aren't going his way - Piyush Chawla on Pant
Piyush Chawla talked about the dismissal of Rishabh Pant against Punjab Kings, saying that it was a ball that he could've put away anywhere. He added that the batter is going through a rough patch where things just aren't going his way. He added:
"Unfortunately, both his team's campaign and his personal form haven't started well. His dismissal was particularly disappointing - it was a ball that could have been put away anywhere, yet he found the fielder at short fine leg.
"His reaction afterwards that knowing smile, suggested he is aware he's going through a rough patch where things just aren't going his way."
