Shreyas Iyer’s injury has opened up spots in the Indian middle order and this will be a big opportunity for the players who have been on the sidelines for a long time now. Shreyas Iyer picked up a shoulder injury while fielding in the first ODI against England and he is set to miss a minimum of four months’ action.

India went on to clinch the first game by a 66 run margin and are looking good to seal the series in the second ODI at Pune on 25th March. India will certainly miss the services of Shreyas Iyer who has been in good form in recent times, but this will also provide an opportunity for the fringe players to get a look in. Here are 3 players who can use Shreyas Iyer’s Injury to cement their place in team India.

3 Players Who Can Use Shreyas Iyer’s Injury To Cement Their Place In Team India:

Suryakumar Yadav showed a lot of promise in the T20 series and Virat Kohli was very much impressed with him. He was rewarded with a place in the Indian ODI squad after some good performances but did not make it into the playing XI in the first ODI. However, the injury to Iyer has brought out the possibility of him taking the number four position in the middle order.

Suryakumar Yadav will have a big opportunity to cement his place in the Indian middle-order and he will have two games to prove a point. He had to wait a long time to get a call up to the Indian side and he will be hungry for runs considering this recent exploits in IPL too. India will need a versatile number four batsmen who can up the ante when needed and Suryakumar Yadav is the best solution to it.

Manish Pandey:

Manish Pandey was recently dropped from the ODI squad after a poor outing in the Australian tour and he could replace Shreyas Iyer in the Indian middle order. Manish Pandey has been in and out of the side and hasnt settled into the Indian batting lineup. He was stated to be the selected number four for India but has slided down in his recent performances.

The Karnataka batsman will be hoping to use this oppurtunity to get back into the scheme of things. With Iyer out of the squad, India will name the replacement and Manish Pandey could well join the squad. Pandey also needs to be wary of the fact that, this might be the last chance for him to stay in the Indian reckonings or he would have to head to the domestic setup again to prove his creditials.

Shubman Gill:

Shreyas Iyer and Rohit Sharma’s injury might open up two slots in the top order as well as in the middle order. Gill has played few ODI games for India and is yet to establish himself with a big score despite getting the odd chances. He can also be an option in the middle order for India and he has shown that he has all the shots in the book to become a great player.

Gill has suffered with consistency problems and this might be the best oppurtunity for him to cement his place in the Indian ODI side , provided he gets the chance. India has a good bench waiting in the wings, and Gill will be aware that he must make the most out of anything he gets. Gill has been the preferred test opener for India alongside Rohit Sharma and he will feel the pressure after a dismal test series against England.
