Australia National Cricket Team fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has added another huge milestone to his already successful Test career. Josh Hazlewood has joined an elite group of players after reaching the 300-wicket mark during the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh in Darwin.
The Australian fast bowler produced a superb bowling performance when his team needed it most. His brilliant six-wicket haul helped him to take his Test wicket tally to 301. Amid this, Australia turn Pakistan under pressure, dropping multiple catches in the same over in the Bangladesh Test.
Josh Hazlewood joins elite 300-Test wicket club
Josh Hazlewood has become the seventh Australian fast bowler and the ninth Australian bowler overall to complete 300 Test wickets. He has joined his Australian teammates Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins in the 300 Test wicket club.
His 301 wickets put him at ninth position among Australia’s leading wicket-takers in Test cricket. Hazlewood’s numbers make the achievement even more impressive.

Among Australia’s nine bowlers with 300 or more Test wickets, only Glenn McGrath, Pat Cummins, and Dennis Lillee have a better bowling average than Hazlewood’s excellent 24.02.

McGrath remains the highest wicket-taking Australian fast bowler with 563 Test wickets, followed by Mitchell Starc with 433, Lillee with 355, Cummins with 315, Johnson with 313, Brett Lee with 310, and now Hazlewood with 301.

Josh Hazlewood opens up on tough six-wicket haul in Darwin and historic 300th Test wicket milestone
After Bangladesh were bowled out for 426 runs in their first innings, Josh Hazlewood said that taking six wickets was not easy because the pitch was difficult for bowlers in Darwin.
Hazlewood was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz: “Yeah, it’s pretty hard work out there on that track. I thought we stuck out; we didn’t let the runs flow too quickly there at the end. Bangladesh dug in nice and tough. It was tough to get wickets out there. So yeah, it was a good effort.”
On reaching the 300-Test wicket milestone, Hazlewood said that he was happy to see his name alongside some of Australia’s great bowlers but said he never thinks about the achievements while bowling. Amid this, “I swear at myself a lot”: Jake Weatherald on his bizarre antics amid Bangladesh Test.
The fast bowler said, “Yeah, I guess so. You don’t really think about those sort of milestones when you’re playing, I guess. It’s probably something you look back on at the end. But I guess just to see the other names there, and I’m playing with three of them, so yeah, it’s pretty cool.”
Australia face rare challenge after Bangladesh take 228-run first-innings lead
Interestingly, Australia have managed to win only three Test matches after conceding a first-innings lead of more than 200 runs. The first came against South Africa in Durban in 1950, when Australia conceded a 236-run lead but still went on to win.
They did the same against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 1992, after giving away a huge 291-run first-innings lead. The most recent was against Pakistan in Sydney in 2010, when Australia conceded a 206-run lead before completing another remarkable victory.
Now, Bangladesh also took a 228-run lead, so it will be interesting to see whether they repeat the feat.
