RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, RR were off to a poor start with the ball as Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel gave DC a flying start. Fraser-McGurk began the proceedings by hitting Jofra Archer for two fours in the first over.

In the second over, Abishek Porel decided to join the party, and Tushar Deshpande had to pay a big price. The DC opener went after the RR pacer right from the word go and eventually collected 23 runs off the over.

Deshpande conceded 5 boundaries
Deshpande began with a full toss, and Abishek Porel had no trouble in dispatching the ball for a four. On the second ball, the right-arm pacer managed to get an outside edge, but the ball once again ran away for a four.
Deshpande's third delivery was on the pads, and Porel flicked it over the deep backward square leg fielder for the first six of the match.
The fourth ball was a slower delivery, and Porel hit that one for a four as well. On the fifth delivery of the over, Porel played a full shot to collect another four. Deshpande was looking destined to concede six boundaries in his very first over, but Porel could collect only a single on the final delivery of the over.
