Veteran English commentator David Lloyd has backed England to inflict a historic whitewash on Australia in the upcoming Ashes.

The much-awaited five-match Test series is scheduled to be played from November 21. The series-opener will take place in Perth while the fifth and final Test will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 4. Australia are currently holding the urn and will be favorites to win the upcoming series as well.

England have not managed to win the series since 2015. In the last four series, they have lost two in Australia and have drawn the other two at home.

It's going to be 5-0 England - David Lloyd's bold prediction

While England have won the Ashes just once in Australia this century with their last victory coming in 2011, David Lloyd is confident that Ben Stokes & Co. will not only win the series but will also complete a historic whitewash.

"I hate predictions, I can't be doing with them. But I'm gonna turn into Glenn McGrath, it's going to be 5-0 England," Lloyd told SEN. "I was told that's never ever been done."

When asked by Australian cricketing great Ian Healy why he was so confident, Lloyd called England a better team and predicted that Australia would suffer. Lloyd stated that England have a quality attack and with Australia yet to finalise their batting order, the tourists are in with a great chance to win the series.

If you come up against a team better than you in their backyard, you will suffer - David Lloyd

"If you come up against a team better than you in their backyard, you will suffer. Our guys right now, there's a real sense that we can do something here. We've come over there and lost before. There is a real thought right now that England have a massive chance to win the Ashes in Australia.

"They feel they have the attack, that Australia are at sixes and sevens with the line-up, who will open, who is at three, does Marnus come back in," said Lloyd.

"Then there's a really great match up between two of the best in the world with Joe Root and Steve Smith. Whoever comes out on top of those two will have a real influence on the series," he added.

At present, five batters - Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Sam Konstas, Jake Weatherald and Matt Renshaw - are in contention for the top three. While only time will tell who gets the nod, Llyod said that he is not worried about any of the five batters. He then went on to call Travis Head and Steve Smith as the biggest threat for his team.

All the talk seems to be about Konstas - David Lloyd

"All the talk seems to be about Konstas. Has he got substance behind him? It's a big deal to shove a kid in to open. Fair dinkum, if he gets into the side then fair do's," said the former England batsman.

"If I'm England coach and the team, am I worried about them? None of the names are going to up on the whiteboard. I'm not worried about any of those names.

"Head and Smith are the names that will be on the England whiteboard. They're dangerous, they are game changers," he added.
