5 Indian Batsmen With Most Test Runs In England
5. Dilip Vengsarkar
The only overseas batter to get three centuries at the home of cricket, Lord's, Dilip Vengsarkar had his best saved for England, especially in English conditions.
The legendary Indian batter is fifth on the list of the highest run scorers for the national team in England. Vengsarkar scored 960 runs in 23 innings of the 13 Test matches he played in England.
The right-hander scored runs at an average of 48, which makes for a pretty good record in testing conditions as an opener.
Vengsarkar's highest score of 157 vs England was his second Test century at Lord's. The visitors lost the match by seven wickets despite the batter's herculean effort after the team was made to follow on.
4. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has had a love-hate relationship with England, especially in their backyard. Kohli, who was dropped from India's Test squad for the 2011 tour, failed to get a bat on the ball in 2014 and ended up scoring only 134 runs in 10 innings.
On his second tour in 2018, Kohli, the captain, settled old scores and piled on 593 runs with a fighting century in the first Test at Edgbaston.
Although the visitors lost the series 4-1, Kohli was able to redeem himself as a batter and continued it on the next tour in 2021.
The right-hander shone both as a batter and as a captain in what proved to be his last Test series in England.
Although Kohli's stats in England are not as impressive as they are in other countries, he is still the fourth-highest run scorer for the national side in England with 1096 runs in 33 innings.
3. Sunil Gavaskar
The original little master, Sunil Gavaskar, takes the third spot as far as the tally of Indian batters with the most Test runs in England is concerned. Gavaskar scored 1152 runs in England at an average of 41.14.
Gavaskar's highest score of 221 in England came on the 1979 tour of England.
2. Rahul Dravid
Rahul Dravid has scored the second-most runs among Indian batters in England. Dravid ended his career with 1378 runs in 23 innings in England at a staggering average of 68.80.
Dravid is the last visiting captain to win a Test series in England, having done so in a three-match series in 2007.
1. Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar is at the top of the charts with 1575 runs in 30 innings. Sachin scored this many runs at an average of 54.31, with his highest score being 193.
Tendulkar's first Test century also came on English soil in 1990 as a teenager.
