5 Indian Bowlers With the Most Test Wickets In England
5. Bishan Singh Bedi
The veteran spinner Bishan Singh Bedi, who has also captained the visitors, is the fifth-highest wicket-taker for the visitors in England. Bedi ended his career with 35 wickets in 18 innings.
Bedi's performance includes a six-wicket haul at Lord's, which helped him get on the honors board.
The left-arm spinner was a vital part of the spin bowling quartet in the 70s, which also had the likes of Erapalli Prasanna, Chandrasekhar, and Venkataraghavan.
4. Anil Kumble
Anil Kumble, who played for India for 18 years, finds himself fourth in the list of the visiting bowlers with the most wickets in England. The leg spinner picked up 36 wickets in 19 innings.
Kumble, along with Harbhajan, were integral to the success of the 2002 tour of England, where the Sourav Ganguly-led side were able to draw the series after winning the first Test at Headingley.
One of the prime reasons for Kumble's consistent performance in England over the years was his stint with Northamptonshire, where he took ten wickets.
Kumble played a crucial role in the last series win in England as well, with both bat and ball, as he picked up wickets and scored a memorable century in the third Test.
3. Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah has picked up 37 wickets in 15 innings in England and is the third-highest wicket-taker for the visitors on English soil.
Bumrah picked up 21 wickets at an average of 22.47 on the last England tour in 2021. The fast bowler will look to replicate the same performance in the upcoming five-match Test series.
Having said that, Bumrah might not play the entire series according to the team management and will feature in three matches.
2. Kapil Dev
The first World Cup-winning captain of India was the second captain after Ajit Wadekar to win a Test series in England, and he did so in 1986.
Kapil Dev was one of those players who saved his best for England, whether it be with bat or ball.
The fast-bowling all-rounder foxed 43 batters in 22 innings, which is the second most by a visiting bowler in England.
1. Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma holds the record for the most wickets taken by the visiting bowlers in Tests in England, which includes a spell of 7-74 against the home side at Lord's in 2014.
He also bagged the Player of the Match award for his match-winning spell. In total, Ishant has taken 48 wickets in 22 innings in England, which is the most among active Indian players as well.
