Australia, led by Mitchell Marsh, finished the West Indies tour with a clean sweep in the five-match series in the Caribbean. The Men in Yellow etched their name in the history books by completing their first-ever clean sweep in a five-match T20I series, which is a significant achievement in Australia’s T20I journey.

The West Indies were expected to put up a fight in T20s after their struggles in Tests, but they failed to deliver. Their mistakes throughout the series allowed Australia to take full advantage. Australia have won 13 of their last 14 T20Is as part of their preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup in the subcontinent.

Australia Become Only the Second Major Team to Seal 5-0 T20I Series Win

Australia ended the T20I series on a high note, despite a top-order collapse in the final match. They chased down 171 with three wickets in hand and 18 balls to spare, sealing a 5-0 sweep for the first time in a five-match series.

Australia have become only the second major team to achieve a 5-0 T20I series win, with India being the first to do so against New Zealand in 2020. Remarkably, this feat has occurred just six times in international T20I history, despite the format being played by over 100 nations.

Apart from India and Australia, Malaysia, Cayman Islands, Tanzania, and Spain have also achieved this rare record. Spain recorded a 5-0 win against Croatia in 2024.

Teams to Win All Matches in a Five-Match T20I Series:

Team Opposition Year
India New Zealand 2020
Malaysia Hong Kong 2020
Cayman Islands Bahamas 2022
Tanzania Rwanda 2022
Spain Croatia 2024
Australia West Indies 2025

Australia Win Every Toss on Their Tour of the West Indies

Australia enjoyed a rare streak of luck with the coin throughout their tour of the West Indies, winning the toss in every single match. They opted to bat first in all three Tests and chose to bowl in each of the five T20Is. It's worth mentioning that Australia also won all eight matches on the tour.

Australia restricted the Windies to 32/3 in the powerplay. Shimron Hetmyer scored 52 off 31 balls, while Sherfane Rutherford added 35 from 17. However, the hosts were bowled out for 170 in the final over. Ben Dwarshuis took three wickets, and the other five bowlers chipped in with at least one wicket each.

In response, Australia lost Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, and Josh Inglis with just 25 runs on the board. However, Tim David scored 30 off 12 balls, including four sixes and a four, while Mitchell Owen added 37 off 17 deliveries. Australia reached the target in 17 overs.

Didn’t Expect 5-0 at the Start of the Series - Mitch Marsh

Mitch Marsh admitted that a 5-0 result wasn’t something Australia had anticipated at the start of the series. He revealed that the team had discussed the significance of the achievement after the fourth match. Marsh also said it was a special moment for a team that hasn’t played much together.

"Didn't expect 5-0 at the start of the series, but we played some great cricket throughout. (On being the first team to beat a full member 5-0) We spoke about it after the 4th game. We haven't played a lot together as a group, so this achievement is something the boys will always be proud about," Marsh said.
