A Player Can Only Attempt To Make An Effort, And Someone Like Virat Kohli Must Be Working Quite Hard - Anjum Chopra

Anjum Chopra, a former captain of the India Women’s team, has defended Virat Kohli in the face of criticism for his lacklustre batting performance. According to Chopra, the athlete would undoubtedly make an extra effort to rediscover his lost touch.

Chopra asserted in an interview with ANI that players can only recover from a run of subpar performances by practicing more.

She expressed her opinion that Virat will be aware of the steps he must take to get out of his rut and said:

“Virat Kohli is mindful of his needs. When your performance falls short of your expectations, you work harder. I do not doubt that he is exercising, making efforts, and will continue to make efforts to get back in shape. Practice is the only option given how international cricket is currently playing.”

“A player can only attempt to try. And someone like him must be working quite hard to break out of their slump. But occasionally, things do not work out as planned. This drop was inevitable given the adoration and attention he has received throughout the years.”

The former cricketer-turned-commentator seems upbeat about the batter’s prospects of once again being a top performer for the national team. Chopra continued:

“I have witnessed players score the 30s and 40s while enduring for years on the Indian squad. But because of the bar he has set for himself, the 30s and 40s appear less from his bat. It would only be a matter of time that he will be back among runs for the Indian team.”

The current West Indies leg of India’s tour does not include Kohli. For the ODI and T20I series, the seasoned player has been rested. He is on a family vacation in Paris while taking a break from the game.
