All doors for the Indian cricket team might have closed for the experienced bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami. For the last one and a half years, both Shami and Kumar have been pushing hard to make a comeback with the national side for another stint.
Due to their stunning performance in domestic cricket and T20 leagues, multiple Indian cricket fans expected to see at least one of them in one of the Indian cricket team squads. Former India cricketer Aakash advised all of the Indian cricket fans, who were expecting a return of Bhuvneshwar Kumar or Mohammed Shami during the multi-format home series against West Indies, to read the wall properly instead of relying on emotion.
BCCI named multiple squads without Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami
On September 17, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced squads for the series against West Indies, the Rest of India team for the Irani Cup match against Jammu and Kashmir, and the India A squad for another white-ball series against Australia A cricket team. Alongside there will a 2026 Asian Games in Japan at the same time when the Indian cricket team will be playing a series against West Indies.
Despite the overlap of events, multiple injuries, and issues related to players' fitness, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee named mostly emerging cricketers, such asib Nabi, Prince Yadav, and Mayank Yadav, as the back-up fast bowlers, but did not choose the experienced bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami, who are in form.
Selectors ignored the experienced ones to prefer the young guns
Highlighting the crucial section of the selections, Aakash Chopra stated that the selectors made their position very clear by choosing the young guns over the veterans.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar could be picked for the T20Is and Shami for the ODIs, but instead of making them, the selectors preferred to go with a bunch of young players, which seemed to be a clear indication of what the selectors and the team management were actually looking for to sustain the upcoming jam-packed schedule.

In his YouTube video, Aakash Chopra stated that everything was clear from the selectors' point of view, as well as from Bhuvneshwar Kumar's and Shami's point of view. Why these two experienced fast bowlers were not selected is written on the wall, as Chopra mentioned.
"In all of this, there is no mention of Mohammad Shami anywhere. I think this was an important selection. There is a lot of overlapping happening; you are trying out a lot of new players. There is no Mohammad Shami and no Bhuvneshwar Kumar, so I think the writing is on the wall."
"When you look at it from Shami and Bhuvi's point of view, I think this was a very important selection. You could have thought about Bhuvi for T20s and Shami for ODIs, but you are not thinking about it," Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
"When there are names like Auqib Nabi, Mayank Yadav, and Prince Yadav, and no Bhuvi or Shami, I think it tells us something. I think this is something that we should accept and realise that this is where we are. Make peace with it and keep moving on; that is what I think," Aakash Chopra added.
