AB de Villiers has claimed that South Africa haven't played at their full potential after the side led by Aiden Markram reached the semis of T20 WC 2024.

South Africa's berth in the last 4 stage was sealed earlier today by Marco Jansen, who scored the winning six against West Indies. It was both of the teams' final Super 8 match of this T20 World Cup in USA & Caribbean. A victory would have seen either sides qualify for the semi-finals of the competition which will kick-off later this week.

South Africa and England seal their spot in the semis

Currently, South Africa and England are the two teams from Group 2 to make it to the penultimate round. They will get to know about one of their opponents later today when India and Australia face each other in Group 1's second-last Super 8 match. Tomorrow, Afghanistan and Bangladesh will play the last match of this round and after that, the semi-finalists will be locked in.

If the Indian team wins today in St. Lucia, then they will face Jos Buttler's England in a replay of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final in Adelaide. But if Australia win and Afghanistan also win their last Super 8 match, then Rohit Sharma's men might not even reach the next round with net run-rate being the only thing to save them from elimination.

Earlier today at the Sir Viv Richards stadium, Aiden Markram's Proteas side led to the Elimination of co-hosts West Indies in a closely fought match. The match went down to the last over of the 2nd innings with South Africa winning the match after losing 7 wickets while trying to chase down the revised target of 123 runs.

Opening batters Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks shared just 12 runs between them while Aiden Markram, Tristan Stubbs and Heinrich Klaasen amassed 18, 29 and 22 respectively. Marco Jansen scored 21 off 14 towards the end which also included the winning shot for a six.

AB de Villiers expresses his concerns over South Africa's lack of lethality

AB de Villiers took to X (formerly Twitter) earlier today to shed light on South Africa's performance which helped them reach the semi-finals. The former Proteas captain claimed that Aiden Markram's side are yet to play their best brand of cricket in the T20 World Cup and that the team is yet to zone in.

But regardless of that, AB de Villiers feels that South Africa reaching the semi-finals without playing at their their best is a huge acheivement. de Villiers also feels that they are not too far away from playing in their ful potential.

"Still feel their best Cricket is yet to come. Haven’t really zoned yet. Nice to qualify for a semi final without playing at your best. Looks like they’re close." - AB de Villiers wrote on X.
